Nantucket Sankaty Head Lighthouse

 Sankaty Head Lighthouse

Sankaty Head Lighthouse

My mind is still thinking of warmer weather so I am sharing an image captured during a summer past.

Sankaty Head Lighthouse on Nantucket Island was built in 1850 and is still in operation. Senator Ted Kennedy helped to secure funds to move this lighthouse, the move was completed in 2007. It was built close to a bluff that is now quickly eroding. Without being moved by man, it would have been moved into the ocean by Neptune.  Neptune may yet claim this lighthouse – we saw a number of nearby residences that had been previously moved from the edge of the bluff. Continued erosion is threatening them again.
