Adventure in Nicaragua

I just returned from a Cultural & Photography Tour of Nicaragua sponsored by Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners in the Americas program.  The tour was wonderful but I had not planned on any Nicaragua posts. However that all changed once the New York Times named Nicaragua as one of the top places to go in 2013.

It  is a fabulously beautiful country with a sad history that unfortunately the USA is partially responsible for. Nicaragua deserves to be on the travel itinerary. Tourism may be one of the mechanisms that help the Nicaraguans to lift themselves out of extreme poverty.

Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners  is part of Partners of the Americas which in turn was inspired by President Kennedy and founded in 1964 under the Alliance for Progress Partners of the Americas as a non-profit, non-partisan organization. The Wisconsin program is 50 years old, very diverse and active and is headquartered in Stevens Point.  The Partnership has endured through thick and thin and over the years the Wisconsin Partnership has developed strategies that are making a real difference in Nicaragua. I will highlight a few of these efforts in upcoming posts.
