Hoarfrost on the Buena Vista

Hoarfrost on the Buena Vista Grasslands

The Buena Vista Grasslands is a vast area south of Plover that was formerly a tamarack swamp. Drained at the beginning of the last century, the area is still lowlands suffering from early frosts.  During early fall, clear nights often cause the temperature to plunge.  When the air is still moist, beautiful hoarfrost forms on grasses. The frost typically is present for a short time as it evaporates with the rising sun.
