Mallard Catching the Light

Photography is about catching the light. Without light there would be no image. In the studio the photographer adds light to highlight the subject. In the field, your wait around until the light is right or you find good light and make the most of it.

To capture the above image I went to Iverson Park in Park Ridge, Wisconsin.  I had hoped to obtain a few images of the Plover River flowing through the Park. From previous experience I knew the early morning light can be gorgeous in this location.  The morning was also made more magical with a mist rising from the river.

I noticed this mallard paddling in and out of the mist and rays of light. I positioned my self hoping to capture the mallard, mist, river and shafts of light all at the same time.  AHHH…. success.

I chased the light to find the right scene and also waited for the mallard to be positioned just right in the light.
